Marge Mount

"Mount's paintings invoke breathtaking images, utilizing the natural beauty of nature, while eulogizing the dignity and character of its inhabitants, bringing across the awe-inspiring vista and classical response to landscape."

Artist Statement

While growing up in the Northwest, the beauty of nature and wildlife always enthralled me.   At the San Francisco Art Institute I transferred my early visions of owls, herons and nature to canvas. My graduate studies at Stanford University in the Fine Arts Program provided me with guidance under the mentorship of Frank Lobdell and Nathan Oliveira.

Several years ago my approach to painting changed dramatically.  I began incorporating the New Old Masterism that involves using layers of glazing to create a deeper and richer effect.  Using this technique, my paintings have taken on a depth that, previously, I had not yet achieved.

Today, I combine panels to make a variety of images to impact a certain theme.  This allows me to "break away" from the traditional approach when presenting a single image and affords me a unique position in the art world
